What is Engineering?

Engineers have a hand in designing, creating, or modifying nearly everything we touch, wear, eat, see and hear. Many students reach high school and even college without knowing what engineers do. For those students, when it is time to select a career direction, they may not even know how rewarding it is to solve problems that help people. Engineers use math and science as tools to solve problems that help people. This leads to a very satisfying career. Engineering is an excellent foundation for any career.

One resource for further inquiry into the fascinating field of engineering is the TeachEngineering National Science Digital Library. The TeachEngineering digital library provides hundreds of teacher-tested, standards-based engineering content taught in K-12 classrooms across the U.S. TeachEngineering curricula are hands-on, inexpensive, and relevant to children's daily lives.
